About Coast Mountain CateringCoast Mountain Catering’s owner/chef Liz Abbey was born
and raised in Rossland BC, and moved to Squamish in 2007 after
eight years as Private Chef on some of the yachting industry’s
most renowned sailing vessels.
Upon completion of her culinary diploma at the Pacific Institute
of Culinary Arts, in Vancouver BC, Liz enjoyed the opportunities
and experiences that cooking in remote, high-end lodges in Western
Canada offered. With a strong desire to travel abroad, she soon
established herself on private yachts, sailing extensively through
Caribbean, Atlantic and Mediterranean waters. During this time,
Liz continually developed her unique style and culinary repertoire,
exploring local ingredients, methods and cultures. Her position
on the yachts allowed her much freedom in creating memorable
dining experiences for the owner’s guests on board.
Liz furthered her formal education throughout her yachting career,
receiving the ‘Diplome du Boulangerie' from the French
Culinary Institute in New York City, and numerous certificates
for advanced chef studies at the Culinary Institute of America.
With the outstanding ability to entertain a diverse clientele,
a flexible and dynamic nature, Liz soon found herself working
on some of the finest sailing yachts built. She subsequently
accepted a position as Personal Chef to the owner of one of these
vessels, relocating to Texas. This involved travelling with the
owner on business and pleasure trips, and planning all of his
personal, private and corporate meals, parties and events.
Her decision to settle in Squamish was an easy one, with its
offerings of a small town, big mountains, the ocean and a thriving
local interest in sustainable food and culinary innovation. Liz’s
high standards and passion for fine food are evident in every
dish that she prepares. Liz looks forward to building upon her
reputation for serving delicious contemporary west coast cuisine,
throughout the Sea to Sky corridor.
